If TV episodes are not named properly, due to incorrect ripping settings, watching a TV series can be particularly difficult, because you would have to spend some time to find the next episode. This is where TVRename comes in. It can rename countless TV episodes in just a few seconds. As a result, the file names will include the name of the TV series, as well as episode numbers and names. The best part is that you don't have to make any tedious settings to rename the files, even if you target multiple seasons at once.

TVRename is absolutely free and you can have it up and running in no time. It works on Windows XP and all later versions, up to Windows 8. The application doesn't have any special requirements and you don't have to sacrifice too much disk space, RAM or processing power to run it.

The software can rename TV episodes automatically, based on information from the Internet. To rename the files, you have to find the information and target your files, on the same user interface, but on separate tabs. The search parameters can be defined on a small window. Typing the name of a TV series and clicking a Search button is sufficient, but you can make many more settings along the way. The software can be set to ignore specific seasons, to create specific folders for each season and much more. Once it finds a TV series, its seasons will be displayed in a tree structure, on the left side of the main interface and you can read a short overview of each episode in the larger area on the right.

You can set the program to search for TV episodes in specific folders, which can be added to a list, in the general settings menu. It is also possible to set TVRename to monitor one or more folders. When you are done targeting your folders, you can start scanning for their contained episodes, on the main interface, just by clicking a button, on the Scan tab. Once you start the scanning process, the program will try to match the TV episodes from your hard drive to the ones it finds on the online database. If a season is missing, TVRename will display an on-screen message and you can specify the folder's path yourself or ignore the season.

TV episodes from your hard drive are displayed in a list, along with various details. You can select individual episodes by clicking their corresponding check boxes or select everything with a single click. The selected episodes can be renamed instantly, just by clicking a button, beneath the file list. What's more, you can search for more than one TV series, import all episodes in the same list and rename them in a single run.

Besides renaming files, the software can also tell you when new episodes will air. If you search for a TV series, the software will automatically display its upcoming and future episodes, as well as the last aired episode, along with their schedules. Furthermore, each episode is displayed with different icons, to let you know if you have it on your hard drive or not.

Pros

You can rename a huge number of TV episodes fast and easy. The software can retrieve the necessary information from an online database. Also, TVRename provides you with a schedule for upcoming episodes.

Cons

You may need some time to figure out how to scan and import TV episodes, especially if you don't have all the seasons. TVRename gives you the possibility of renaming countless TV episodes instantly, with a single click.
